We all have heard them from one place or another. TV has made it practically common knowledge that 10-4 means “Ok.” Police codes, while they vary in different areas, were designed to facilitate communication between officers. Nowadays, the meaning of each code is broken down on the internet or advertised on the television. They are not exactly kept a secret from those wanting to figure out their meanings. In today’s world, is it really logical to continue to use police codes over common speech? Is it really faster to say 10-4 than “Ok”? What is the point of keeping this code?
Very true, it seems silly to put effort into maintaining codes and abbreviations that are common knowledge to society.
ReplyDeleteYeah, media spread abundant information about codes, cryptology and then some of codes become common knowledge. It can widen people's eye about cryptology but also decrease police codes.
