Secrets Inhibit a Common Goal
In the world of cryptography and secrets, there are several different organizations and individuals essentially working on the same problems. Before September 11th 2001, the CIA and FBI for example, operated separately on some of the same cases. If one group were to discover a little more information regarding the case, that discovery was kept within that group and not shared with the other. Though both groups were working towards a common cause, they were essentially working individually. This happens all the time, not just with the CIA and FBI. Scientific researchers, for example, though all may be searching for a common cure, they work individually. This could be for many reasons. Maybe each wants to be the one to solve the puzzle and win all of the glory. Perhaps each thinks that their way of working is the best. Regardless, isn’t it better to share ideas and secrets in search of a common solution? When is it okay to share information and when should it be kept secret?

I honestly believe that sharing ideas and discoveries would expedite figuring things out. However in this case I believe that these organizations are pitted against each other even though each is working for the same country and goal. Both believe that the other is inferior and I also think that it is a turf thing. They don't want anybody stepping on their turf or making them look bad. It's all about ego.
ReplyDeleteBy Law, each individual agency can subpoena records, people and information that they might need for any type of investigation. This being said it doesn't mean that these agencies purposely keep or give away information its just they seem not to have the man power or time to work together on every little case or assignment. The real problem its trying to get information from across oceans or borders can be difficult because people usually want to keep the information to try and get something out of it. When in war time countries tend to keep the information to themselves but eventually the information will get spread and new codes created.
ReplyDeleteWell, as far as I know, when it is related to individual profits, it may be hard for people to share secrets. For example, if a company want to survive in the competitive market, there are only two ways. First, reduce the cost of production. Second, create the characteristics that are unique. As a result, many companies around the world especially the multinational corporations will spend a lot of money and time to keep the trade secrets safe. However, if concerning about human profits like environment issues, may be it is better for organizations to work together and share some discoveries.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the people of the world would have to stop lying to each other for personal gain before we could successfully share information to benefit all of humanity.
